Dr. Sathyamurthy Narayanasami from Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali visited Saitama University
An Indian eminent chemist Dr. Sathyamurthy Narayanasami (http://home.iitk.ac.in/~nsath/nsath.html) from Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali visited Saitama University (SU) from August 7th to 10th, 2017. The purpose of his visit was to give a seminar and to discuss our future collaboration between IISER Mohali and SU.
In the afternoon on the 8th, Prof. Sathyamurthy gave a seminar talk consisting of two different topics entitled “Structural Motifs in Chemistry and Chemical Biology” and “Symmetry and Pattern Formation in Flowers,” respectively. In the first part, he presented various patterns of the structural motif of chemical materials and biomaterials, and then discussed their molecular-level structures on the basis of highly – accurate quantum chemistry calculations. In the second part, the significance of the nonlinear dynamics in symmetric patterns frequently seen in various flowers in nature has been pointed out. After the seminar, Prof. Sathyamurthy went to Prof. Takayanagi’s lab and observed the facilities and was informed about his study.
Prof. Sathyamurthy met Prof. Yamaguchi, President of SU as a courtesy call on 10th and discussed our future collaboration through academic exchanges between IISER Mohali and SU.
It was our honor to have Prof. Sathyamurthy at SU.
