Visit to Chiang Mai University and University of Phayao in Thailand

Prof. Takafumi Sakai, Prof. Masami Suganuma, Assoc. Prof. Ichiro Sakata, Assoc. Prof. Akinori Kawamura, and Assist. Prof. Ryouhei Yoshihara visited Chiang Mai University and University of Phayao in Thailand from February 21 to 24.
Faculty members of Saitama University visited for the first time the Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University (CMU) from February 21-22, 2017 under an MoU. We met with Prof. Bannakij Lojanapiwat (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine), and heads of all departments. After a welcome talk by Prof. Pornngarm Dejkriengkraikul (Assist. Dean of Faculty of Medicine), Prof. Sakai introduced the history and activities of Saitama University at the Dean’s office.
The first joint meeting of Chiang Mai and Saitama Universities was held in the afternoon at Cadaveric Surgical Training Center to exchange views about future collaborations. All members from Saitama University and six professors from CMU made a presentation of their research fields followed by discussion. On February 22, we visited the Laboratory Animal Center, Medical Science Research Equipment Center, and Department of Biochemistry. All participants exchanged research ideas for future collaborations.
On February 23, members of Saitama University visited the University of Phayao. During the meeting with Prof. Mondhon Sanguansermsri (President of University of Phayao) and other professors, the participants introduced their respective university, and exchanged ideas for future collaborations. Members of Saitama University visited the Laboratory Animal Research Center in University of Phayao after that meeting.
A research seminar was held in the afternoon, and all members of Saitama University and five academic staff from University of Phayao talked about their research work. After the seminar, Prof. Suganuma, Prof. Sakai, Prof. Nison Sattayasai (Dean of School of Medical Sciences, University of Phayao) and other professors discussed the terms of an MoU between the School of Medical Sciences, University of Phayao and the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Saitama University. All the participants agreed to continue further discussions about the MoU.
