Associate Professor Makoto Nagasawa (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences)
On March 20th, 2018, Prof. Osamu Ito, Dean of Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Makoto Nagasawa, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, visited Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (PRUE) for academic exchange meetings. PRUE is one of top research universities of social science, of which the graduates include high officials of the Minister of Finance and Russian business leaders. The main campus is located in the center of Moscow, and PRUE has been one of SU’s international partners.
First, we visited Dr. Rashad A. Kurbanov, Director of the Research Institute of Legal Studies and Regional Integration, in order to extend our existing comprehensive agreement with student exchange. The negotiation has been successful and we will soon conclude an additional Memorandum of Understanding. Afterwards, Dr. Kurbanoy kindly invited us to a reception held near the campus located in the center of Moscow. We did enjoy Caucasus cuisine together with PRUE colleagues.
On March 21st, Prof. Ito gave a special lecture entitled “Why is the Japanese Economy Falling in Slump.” The lecture was on the postwar history of Japanese economy and the current stagnation together with its demographic changes and the impacts on the market behaviors. Despite the lecture held during their lunch time, the audience was over 60 students and faculty members. They were listening eagerly to his careful explanation. After the lecture, some students raised significant inquiries to Prof. Ito such as possible solutions to exit from the current stagnation. After his session, Prof. Nagasawa had a moment to present about SU. We do look forward to having the first student comes to our campus in near future.
