Dean Takeshi Suzuki visits People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) in Moscow

Associate Professor Makoto Nagasawa (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences)

On March 22nd, 2018, Prof. Takeshi Suzuki, Dean of Faculty of Science, and Assoc. Prof. Makoto Nagasawa, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, visited People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN). RUDN is one of a leading comprehensive research university selected for the 5-100 Project in Russia, and one of SU’s international partners. The purpose of our visit was to further develop our existing partnership by creating concrete collaboration projects in all areas of Humanities, Social Science and Science.

First, we had a meeting with Dean Vladimir A. Tsvyk, Faculty of Liberal Arts, to discuss about potential joint activities. Subsequently, we visited the office of Prof. Vasilchenko Helen, Head of Theory and History of Culture Dept., and jointly examined the match of our faculty members, departments, disciplines and programs.

On March 23rd, we had a meeting with Prof. Yury Razoumny, Director (Dean) of Academy where Dean Suzuki gave a special lecture on nuclear physics. We discussed on in which fields of science we can collaborate with and what kind of funding are available for these activities. Among others, the fields of Astro-physics and Petro-science emerged as our potential collaboration areas, given its good match of the prominent researchers from both sides.

During this trip, Dean Suzuki had a reunion after nearly a quarter century with a Russian nuclear physicist, Dr. Oleg V. Bochkarev, former researcher at Kurchatov Institute. We were fascinated by his special tour, through which we visited significant historic and modern sites in the center of Moscow.
