Professor Yoshinori Kuno Visited Five Universities in Colombia

Professor Yoshinori Kuno visited five universities in Colombia from February 28 to March 6. They were the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería Julio Garavito, Universidad Javeriana, all located in Bogota, and Universidad Santo Tomas in Tunja. Saitama University hosted ten students from these five universities in December 2018 under the Sakura Science Plan by the Japan Science and Technology Agency. Professor Kuno gave a workshop for them to experience programming robots. He visited the universities to seek continued collaboration between them and Saitama University.

 

In addition to visiting the laboratories and exchanging ideas with faculty members and students, he gave a talk twice at the Universidad Santo Tomas and Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He presented his human-robot interaction research work under the title of “Robotic Systems Based on Sociological Interaction Analysis.” The talks were open to public and attracted about 250 and 150 participants, respectively.

 

He was also interviewed by La República, a major financial newspaper in Colombia. The article was printed on March 11 with the headline “AI can contribute to improving efficiency in agriculture.”
